The Rune Forge (Book 7) introduces a different way of playing D100 Dungeon, and will give you choices much like a choose your own adventure game. It uses all of the D100 Dungeon rules from the main rulebook with a few modifications. Also included are new rules called "Random Dungeons", that can be implemented into any of your games; whether you're playing a quest, campaign, or using the World Builder expansion.

You will need the D100 Dungeon rule book to use this book

THE RUNE FORGE ADVENTURE

Deep in the mountains to the northeast of the Arcane Tower is the Ruin Forge. It was built by the dwarves exactly 100 years after they completed the Arcane Tower. Work began in the year -2489 and took just nine years to complete. The Council of Seven, who commissioned its construction, chose its location beneath the Irontorn mountains, in an effort to hide it away from preying eyes, but alas it fell foul to a powerful demon named Vakanar. Vakanar is one of a handful of demon lords that first emerged from the Demon Gate after its construction in -2790. He craved a huge arcane power and set off on a mission to capture the White Tower. Along the way he summoned a horde of minions, but when he reach the Arcane Tower he learnt of a more powerful structure being built, The Rune Forge. He changed course and waited for its completion. Whilst the dwarves dug, he planned the attack and on the day the Rune Forge was finished, Vakanar and his minions devoured its caverns, spreading torture and fire to its darkest corners. Many dwarves escaped with their lives, but an unlucky few were left behind and were tortured to death to reveal the secret of the nine rune crystals the arcane council placed within its depths. One crystal for each scripture of magic and two more for balancing the arcane power of the forge.

Numerous battles took place to regain its control, but alas the Arcane Council and their battle mages failed to breach its depths. Then, after the Great Icing of -2300 and The Melting of -1400, the location of the Ruin Forge became lost. The Lair of Vakanar (another name for the lost forge) is now where the demon lord and his minions use the power of the nine arcane crystals to sustain and power their existence, preventing them from diminishing back to the demon realm.

You have heard this tale a thousand times, as it's told in every tavern across Terra. Warming your back to the camp fire, you keep watch and recount the story you overheard a few days ago in The Broken Claw, a scruffy little inn at the heart of Blitsworth…

By chance, you have found the entrance to the Rune Forge and must now delve its depths, find the forge and use its power to enchant an item. If you can present the enchanted item to the Council of Seven at the White Tower, it will prove you have found the location of their Lost Forge and secure a handsome reward.

WHICH PRODUCT IS RIGHT FOR YOU?

Below are some details on the PDF and Print on Demand options available to you, which might help you to choose which product is right for you.

The Watermarked PDF is what we refer to as the Digital Edition. The watermark is very small and appears at the very bottom of every page on the left hand side. It will show your account name and an order number; it will not block or cover any of the text inside the book. The pages have a white background.

The Hardcover, Premium Color Book is what we refer to as the Collector’s Edition. It has a collector’s badge on the front cover and a gold spine effect. The pages inside are printed in full colour with a background on premium paper. The book has a glossy hardback cover. Please note: There is not a Collector’s Edition of the Watermarked PDF, and so if you choose the “Watermarked PDF + Hardcover, Premium Color Book” option, the PDF you download does not have the full colour background.

The Hardcover, Standard Color Book is what we refer to as the Hardback Edition. It has a standard badge on the front cover and a grey spine. The pages inside are printed in colour on a white background and on white paper. The book has a glossy hardback cover.

The Softcover, Standard Color Book is what we refer to as the Softback Edition. It has a standard badge on the front cover and a grey spine. The pages inside are printed in colour on a white background and on white paper. The book has a glossy softback cover.

PLEASE BE ADVISED: At times the print on demand books will need to be updated and may be temporarily withdrawn from the product range. This process can take a few months to complete, and will become available as soon as the update is complete. We are sorry for any inconvenience this may cause.

Hi Martin, I have purchased all the books in hardcover and I love the system you have created. It really gives that old school feeling like no other system can. You totally nailed it with the world building and the dungeon combined and drove it home with the companion and lost tome rules. Your system is a must have in my opinion and will be in the RPG hall of fame. I do have a question or perhaps a request, is there any chance of you creating a compilation book? Something like the D&D Rules Cyclopedia that TSR did. I would buy several copies of it and I believe others would love to have One Book to Rule them All!

P.S. with your permission, I would be more than happy to create the draft version of the complete system book for you to use, just say the word and I will make it happen. Thanks for everything you have done and shared with us all.

DAMN IT Acidentally ordered the soft cover, I wanted the hardcover. All my other purchases are hard cover.

Oh well, rather than whine, I'll just enjoy the fact the delivery from date of purchase is faster than what you might think possible. Getting a print on demand product in less than a week is rather impressive.

The main reason I dislike softcover as being soft cover the covers damage. The other normal reason isn't an issue with these books. A spine that 1/2 inch thick or less is unlikely to experience spine cracking.

Hi Martin,

I own all the previous books as Premium Color prints. I was wondering if you have any errata or changes planned for the printed edition before I commit to ordering it. :)

Yippee!!! a new book :) I think that covers my feelings on the matter.

Been role gaming since Gary invented it. And D100 Dungeon has been the greatest thing to happen to rolegaming this century in my opinion.

Thank you so much for such a wonderful comment. I bow down to the great and legendary Gary Gygax. Like many of us who play tabletop games and rpgs, we owe him a great deal of thanks.

Scanned image
These products were created by scanning an original printed edition. Most older books are in scanned image format because original digital layout files never existed or were no longer available from the publisher.

For PDF download editions, each page has been run through Optical Character Recognition (OCR) software to attempt to decipher the printed text. The result of this OCR process is placed invisibly behind the picture of each scanned page, to allow for text searching. However, any text in a given book set on a graphical background or in handwritten fonts would most likely not be picked up by the OCR software, and is therefore not searchable. Also, a few larger books may be resampled to fit into the system, and may not have this searchable text background.

For printed books, we have performed high-resolution scans of an original hardcopy of the book. We essentially digitally re-master the book. Unfortunately, the resulting quality of these books is not as high. It's the problem of making a copy of a copy. The text is fine for reading, but illustration work starts to run dark, pixellating and/or losing shades of grey. Moiré patterns may develop in photos. We mark clearly which print titles come from scanned image books so that you can make an informed purchase decision about the quality of what you will receive.

Original electronic format
These ebooks were created from the original electronic layout files, and therefore are fully text searchable. Also, their file size tends to be smaller than scanned image books. Most newer books are in the original electronic format. Both download and print editions of such books should be high quality.
