Allies and Enemies

ADD TO WISHLIST >

Allies and Enemies is a resource of NPCs for Shadowrun Sixth World Edition, with NPCs for players to hire, and NPCs for the GM to use in other ways

Running the shadows is hard, so make sure to bring some extra chummers you can rely on to help out!

Running games for Shadowrun can be tricky, as you never know what your players will do next, and who they might meet along the way.

Allies and Enemies provides rules for contractors that players can hire to augment their team, along with all the stat bolcks you need to bring them into the game.

These stat blocks can also be used by the GM for NPC stats on-the-fly.

Included are over 150 stat blocks for a wide variety of NPCs from Professional Level 1-8, and some tools for creating a much wider or more specific variety very quickly.

Thank you Mr. Lambert for all your hard work putting together this flavourful and meaningful resource for time-pressed GM's, it truly is a wonder to use.
May I ask however 2 things to help me better understand a few observations ?

1. I notice in the Core Rules, Professional Rating goes from 0 - 10. In A&E, they go from 1-8. Was this because by the time you had statted out PR 8's, they were as high as they could go, or was it because the sheer amount of work to stat PR 9 and PR 10 was just unnecessary ? (eg, Diminishing Returns?)

2. One of my players wanted a Fixer Contact at Chargen. Connection Rating at 3. There's only one fixer in the Core Rules which is pretty bland. Using A&E, I made the Fixer a "Face" and since you mention adding +2 PR to the Connection Rating of the Contact (Hire Someone You Already Know), this gives my Face Template for their Fixer a PR of 5 in total. Since the Core Rules don't say how to "uplift" the generic stat blocks,...See more

Thanks. I'm glad you're getting some good use out of the book. Regarding the PR, I just went with PR 1-8 for the examples to make the ones that would be most commonly used. PR 9+ are likely to be fairly rare except in a very high power campaign, so I drew the line at PR8. The formulae should work just fine to stat up higher PR NPCs, though.
Regarding the contacts from the core rulebook, I find them to be a little on the underpowered side for the most part. I think a good general rule of thumb is PR x 2 as an average dice pool, give or take a die here and there and with some occasional boosts for a specialty. Both the fixer from the book and the face you created with A&E are within those margins. In general, I tended to err towards making the stat blocks more effective at their main skillset rather than less so, so you might find that some A&E stat blocks are more powerful than their PR equivalent in the CRB. That said, it shouldn't be so much that it would be unbalancing for your game, or...See more

Thank you Sir for your time and insight. Much appreciated and makes perfect sense.
For any other GM's out there, I wholeheartedly recommend this book, because it is to Shadowrun what the Monster Manual is to D&D. You've got pages and pages of well designed NPC's kitted and statted out, ready to drop in to a session at a moment's notice. The only thing left to do is give them a name, add a splash of colour with a quirk or trait, and bring them to life. The "heavy-lifting" has been done for you. This was my first purchase on the Holostreets platform and I am very pleased with the quality and production.

Scanned image
These products were created by scanning an original printed edition. Most older books are in scanned image format because original digital layout files never existed or were no longer available from the publisher.

For PDF download editions, each page has been run through Optical Character Recognition (OCR) software to attempt to decipher the printed text. The result of this OCR process is placed invisibly behind the picture of each scanned page, to allow for text searching. However, any text in a given book set on a graphical background or in handwritten fonts would most likely not be picked up by the OCR software, and is therefore not searchable. Also, a few larger books may be resampled to fit into the system, and may not have this searchable text background.

For printed books, we have performed high-resolution scans of an original hardcopy of the book. We essentially digitally re-master the book. Unfortunately, the resulting quality of these books is not as high. It's the problem of making a copy of a copy. The text is fine for reading, but illustration work starts to run dark, pixellating and/or losing shades of grey. Moiré patterns may develop in photos. We mark clearly which print titles come from scanned image books so that you can make an informed purchase decision about the quality of what you will receive.

Original electronic format
These ebooks were created from the original electronic layout files, and therefore are fully text searchable. Also, their file size tends to be smaller than scanned image books. Most newer books are in the original electronic format. Both download and print editions of such books should be high quality.
