Called to Adventure Among the Stars

Star-Crew is a 20 page light-hearted roleplaying game about the amazing space ventures of a low level crew on a small Federation starship.

On this multi-year mission you explore the Dark, the galaxy's last frontier,  to discover new life, strange phenomena and new sources of Kyberium. There’s a problem. The captain is dead and you Ensigns are now in command.

Alone you must face the aggressive expansionism of the Ketz Empire and the uncountable dangers of the Dark. Luckily, there’s just as many wonders and new Kyberium to find so you can continue your travels. Your only brief from Command: Please don’t start a war.

Inside you'll find:

  • Everything you need to play on 20 pages, with easy to learn rules for everything from taking risks to spaceship combat.
  • An oracle-engine that pushes the action through charged questions: Will the ice break? Will the Ketz lackeys shoot or negotiate?
  • A detailed setting ready for exploration and tailoring with six playable species as well as opposing alien forces, like the Ketz, Krok and Utan
  • Quick and fun character and ship creation to get the players ready to play in moments and rules for advancing either over a long campaign.
  • Our signature quirky Pixel art across all spreads, reinforcing that where other games are grimdark, Star-Crew is light-hearted, fun, hopeful

Will you become space heroes or die like your captain?

How do you determine the Drive Charge of your ship?

Hi Jordan, thanks for the question. Your jump threshold is determined in ship creation. The charge value starts at zero and the pilot raises this as combat actions by 1d6 + Wits. You may jump away from combat, when charge is equal to or larger than your jump threshold. This mechanic is emulating FTL. After jumping the charge reverts to zero. Similarly, you can use up charge to power your ship's special technology. You must decide, which is more worthwhile. Hope that helps. Patrick

So all Special Tech costs Drive Charge.
So if the ship has a Teleporter, it cannot be used until the Pilot has earned 8 Drive Charge *IN COMBAT*?
If we're not in combat, does the teleported just work automatically?

Hi Jordan. That is exactly how I play it. I may referee that Teleportation also takes a minute to setup (so no one gets dematerialised), but if there is no time pressure: just let it work.

On the spaceship sheet, why are the last two boxes for drive charge in grey?

Wow, great spot: Here is the reason. Max ship size is 5, meaning max jump is 15. I did not want to go higher than max jump size +3 for charge, i.e. to uphold those technologies that cost 2 charge per turn and still be able to jump, if you are fully "charged". As I am also a visual thinker, I wanted the boxes to be parallel to the ones for HP. The grey was a copromise for my games. In my games, no-one has ever really charged beyond jump in combat (either combat was over before or they then jumped), so I did not write this explicitly in the rules. Maybe I'll just take the grey out in the future.

No, that makes sense.
I just think you need to add under pilot that the Drive Charge the pilot accrues can be spent on the jump and in the ship's Special Tech
Then just add a line under ships or combat that the Drive Charge starts at zero at the beginning of combat, and can increase to a maximum of 15, based on ship size.

I wish that'd be how it works. Sadly any change to the print version means that for at least a two week timeframe the print version is unavailable, while the printer checks the files, if there are no needed revisions, I got to order a proof copy, wait for that to arrive and only then can re-enable ordering of the print version. Sadly, that means I wait for at least a handful of changes (or at least some time to pass with no new changes) before I update the POD.

Scanned image
These products were created by scanning an original printed edition. Most older books are in scanned image format because original digital layout files never existed or were no longer available from the publisher.

For PDF download editions, each page has been run through Optical Character Recognition (OCR) software to attempt to decipher the printed text. The result of this OCR process is placed invisibly behind the picture of each scanned page, to allow for text searching. However, any text in a given book set on a graphical background or in handwritten fonts would most likely not be picked up by the OCR software, and is therefore not searchable. Also, a few larger books may be resampled to fit into the system, and may not have this searchable text background.

For printed books, we have performed high-resolution scans of an original hardcopy of the book. We essentially digitally re-master the book. Unfortunately, the resulting quality of these books is not as high. It's the problem of making a copy of a copy. The text is fine for reading, but illustration work starts to run dark, pixellating and/or losing shades of grey. Moiré patterns may develop in photos. We mark clearly which print titles come from scanned image books so that you can make an informed purchase decision about the quality of what you will receive.

Original electronic format
These ebooks were created from the original electronic layout files, and therefore are fully text searchable. Also, their file size tends to be smaller than scanned image books. Most newer books are in the original electronic format. Both download and print editions of such books should be high quality.
