A Sci-Fi Mini RPG with a Rogue-lite Touch

The Invasion of the Brain Snatchers was thwarted. Humanity won! Decades later big corporations cloned their own brand of aliens.
Play as a group of Brain Snatchers - Tiny corporate spies that take over human bodies  and replace them. Infiltrate competing corporations. Use the skills of your host body to get the job done. And if your host body doesn't have the right skills? It might be time to replace a different human.

This 20 page core rulebook includes everything you need to play The Brain Snatchers:

  • A simple ruleset - Roll 2d6 + ability or 2d6 + skill set.
  • Rules for character creation and advancement.
  • GM instructions to create and run missions.
  • Enemies to fight.

Content Warning:

In this game players assume the roles of alien murderers that sometimes kill humans and take over their bodies. It’s a dark subject matter.

The basis for the cover art was A.I. generated with Leonardo.ai.

This game was created as part of PocketQuest 2023, a game jam by DriveThruRPG.

This game is punk! The cover is punk, the goals are punk and the game play is punk. It’s also cyber but the degree of cyberness is really up to the GM.
I like systems that are easy to teach and this is a simple 2d6 roll above X game. Two dice probability is always more interesting to me than 1 because of the likeliness towards the median (7 in the case of 2d6). There’s a D&D rule called “Roll with emphasis” where players roll 2d20 and take the number further away from 10. It’s used because low and high rolls are the most dramatic. 2d6 is kinda the opposite of that. You’re more likely to roll numbers in the middle. I like it because it makes rolling extreme success or failure less likely and that just feels right.

The hook of jumping from character to character is so cool. It kinda makes you feel like you have to adapt to the needs of the situation which makes you feel really strategic and not stuck into the main function of the character your built. To snatch their brains you...See more

This is the funnest idea I've seen in pocket quest this year. Really like the tone as well. Wanna do a review trade? I do a written review of your submission and you one of mine?

Of course, and thank you for giving it a read. :)
And by the way, I love your rule for Butterfly points. Really creative!

Scanned image
These products were created by scanning an original printed edition. Most older books are in scanned image format because original digital layout files never existed or were no longer available from the publisher.

For PDF download editions, each page has been run through Optical Character Recognition (OCR) software to attempt to decipher the printed text. The result of this OCR process is placed invisibly behind the picture of each scanned page, to allow for text searching. However, any text in a given book set on a graphical background or in handwritten fonts would most likely not be picked up by the OCR software, and is therefore not searchable. Also, a few larger books may be resampled to fit into the system, and may not have this searchable text background.

For printed books, we have performed high-resolution scans of an original hardcopy of the book. We essentially digitally re-master the book. Unfortunately, the resulting quality of these books is not as high. It's the problem of making a copy of a copy. The text is fine for reading, but illustration work starts to run dark, pixellating and/or losing shades of grey. Moiré patterns may develop in photos. We mark clearly which print titles come from scanned image books so that you can make an informed purchase decision about the quality of what you will receive.

Original electronic format
These ebooks were created from the original electronic layout files, and therefore are fully text searchable. Also, their file size tends to be smaller than scanned image books. Most newer books are in the original electronic format. Both download and print editions of such books should be high quality.
