Deep Space Crisis

Deep Space Crisis by SRAS Games (Updated as of 8/1/2023 - See Changelog)

Deep Space Crisis is a rules lite science fiction tabletop roleplaying game designed, developed, and released as a submission for PocketQuest 2023 by SRAS Games’ Sean Ringrose and Andrew Stauffer. The core focus of the game was to offer a low-entry rules system and gameplay for new and experienced tabletop gamers and Game Masters alike.

Derived from some of the duo’s favorite science fiction television series, Deep Space Crisis delivers an episodic gameplay experience which can be played as a single episode or across multiple episodes using Series Mode play. In either mode, players take on the role of Crew Members aboard a space station which bears the unfortunate destiny of constant crisis, and the Crew Members must figure out ways of dealing with the stress of the myriad of crises that arise.

A space ship docks with an unnamed space station

Gameplay in Deep Space Crisis is structured around the use of collaborative storytelling and roleplay. This twenty page guide is a simple, basic set of guidelines which can be used by the Game Master (GM) and their players (Crew Members) to create their own stories and ideas of how things should work.

As tabletop aficionados, the team provides grab-and-go style mechanics and gameplay with minimal preparation to free up Game Masters and players to spend more of their time actually playing the game.

Character creation focuses on how characters deal with the immediate stresses and the overall crises through Actions, though space is given for players to add as much additional character details as they want.

Everything You Need in Twenty Pages

Deep Space Crisis contains everything needed to play through the game within the twenty page guide, however a few six-sided dice, pen & paper, and friends are highly encouraged to enhance your game experience.

The updated layout allows for more consistent flow of the content, and the updated Table of Contents and PDF bookmarks allow for quick access to the content GMs and players need right when they need it.

About the Authors

Deep Space Crisis marks the first official publicly released title for SRAS Games, and also the first for co-authors Sean Ringrose and Andrew Stauffer. With over forty years of combined experience as players and Game Masters across multiple genres and systems and creating homebrew settings and other supplemental content, Sean and Andrew took on the PocketQuest 2023 challenge and are pleased to publicly release the game for the public.

Look for more to come from SRAS Games (pronounced sir-us), as they look to release expansion content for Deep Space Crisis, as well as other games and systems.

Scanned image
These products were created by scanning an original printed edition. Most older books are in scanned image format because original digital layout files never existed or were no longer available from the publisher.

For PDF download editions, each page has been run through Optical Character Recognition (OCR) software to attempt to decipher the printed text. The result of this OCR process is placed invisibly behind the picture of each scanned page, to allow for text searching. However, any text in a given book set on a graphical background or in handwritten fonts would most likely not be picked up by the OCR software, and is therefore not searchable. Also, a few larger books may be resampled to fit into the system, and may not have this searchable text background.

For printed books, we have performed high-resolution scans of an original hardcopy of the book. We essentially digitally re-master the book. Unfortunately, the resulting quality of these books is not as high. It's the problem of making a copy of a copy. The text is fine for reading, but illustration work starts to run dark, pixellating and/or losing shades of grey. Moiré patterns may develop in photos. We mark clearly which print titles come from scanned image books so that you can make an informed purchase decision about the quality of what you will receive.
Original electronic format
These ebooks were created from the original electronic layout files, and therefore are fully text searchable. Also, their file size tends to be smaller than scanned image books. Most newer books are in the original electronic format. Both download and print editions of such books should be high quality.
