How to play:

WARP21 is a card-based game, using a standard 52-card deck. The Dealer runs the game, describing the situations and consequences, while the Players navigate and strive for greatness on Nexus Station and beyond.

The game consists of a series of Encounters threaded together by the narrative. There are two types of Encounters for the Dealer to run, Tasks and Contests. Tasks are a random, card-driven way to determine destiny and luck. Contests simulate more in-depth encounters, both in complexity and scale. Players can attempt many, separate courses of action during a single Contest, with the Dealer describing the events as they unfold at the end of each hand. When one side is wins out, the Dealer or the Players, describe the results of their victory.

The world of WARP21

In 1953, the United Nations completed construction on the largest multinational research colony ever constructed in Antarctica with two aims. First, to create a united culture to avert a third World War. Second, to take advantage of the remote setting to deepen humanity's fundamental understanding of physics. An event that would later be known as "The Collision" propelled the colonists to the massive Nexus Station, a derelict alien space station.

When the colony first arrived, they were frightened and disoriented, the empty space station was devoid of all life, yet was brimming with strange, alien technology. With the collider destroyed, the possibility of returning home seemed impossible. The colonists set out to explore their new environment, learning how to operate the station and the mysterious devices within.

After 15 years, the Nexus Station is now home to many who have never experienced life on Earth. Alien technology is seamlessly integrated with every aspect of everyday life, from ray-powered fly swatters to biological boots that let you walk up walls.

The people who do remember Earth are ever hopeful that they will one day be able to return home. After many years of work, they have rebuilt the collider and activate it again and again, visiting countless worlds as they search for a way home.

Scanned image
These products were created by scanning an original printed edition. Most older books are in scanned image format because original digital layout files never existed or were no longer available from the publisher.

For PDF download editions, each page has been run through Optical Character Recognition (OCR) software to attempt to decipher the printed text. The result of this OCR process is placed invisibly behind the picture of each scanned page, to allow for text searching. However, any text in a given book set on a graphical background or in handwritten fonts would most likely not be picked up by the OCR software, and is therefore not searchable. Also, a few larger books may be resampled to fit into the system, and may not have this searchable text background.

For printed books, we have performed high-resolution scans of an original hardcopy of the book. We essentially digitally re-master the book. Unfortunately, the resulting quality of these books is not as high. It's the problem of making a copy of a copy. The text is fine for reading, but illustration work starts to run dark, pixellating and/or losing shades of grey. Moiré patterns may develop in photos. We mark clearly which print titles come from scanned image books so that you can make an informed purchase decision about the quality of what you will receive.

Original electronic format
These ebooks were created from the original electronic layout files, and therefore are fully text searchable. Also, their file size tends to be smaller than scanned image books. Most newer books are in the original electronic format. Both download and print editions of such books should be high quality.
