I really like the other STA books, and supplement books that i have in my collection so far, however i really wish that i had known this book incorporates post Rick Berman Trek into its lore and information before
I spent money on it. Modern Star Trek is a blight on the franchise and these books are better when they make it easy to pretend nothing has been filmed since nemesis.

I have been reading this slowly (really need more free time...) and am finally getting to the gameplay section. Looking at the ships, I see that the Constitution refit was left out. That seems a rather odd omission to make.

Constitution-class is on page 148. No statistical change to create a refit version unless you want to change the stats. Only meaningful change for the purposes of the game is the look of the ship.

Page 188, the Example of Gameplay section talks about the Captain's "oeuvre". Based on context, I believe the word should be "forté" instead, meaning the Captain's strong point.

Is there a list of errata covering the different PDF versions? I currently have PDFs v1.3 and 1.4, I'd like to see what differs from my hardback version.
Thanks,
Gary

Sure; version 1.3 corrected an error with the bookmark structure. The form fillable sheet was also updated to fix a form error on page 3 of the download.

Version 1.4 contains the following key changes (and a few minor typo fixes):
Page 78: Removed duplicated information at the bottom of the right column.
Pages 85-88: Provides alternate focus table layouts to allow for more random distribution of results.
Page 94: Renamed Liberated Borg to Borg (Liberated) to match the entry and reorganized the table alphabetically.
Page 143: TOS era ship list: Removed Centaur from the list and added Walker, and reorganized the table alphabetically.
Page 174: Provides alternate table layouts for starship talents to allow for more random distribution of results.

Not by themselves, but since you get a free copy of the PDF with a print purchase, you could print out the changed pages and use those with your print copy.

A picture of the receipt or a picture of you holding the book usually suffices.

another 5-star rating (bought direct, sorry DT). But hey, it's not just for solo. This is a nice less-crunch version of STA, and I'm glad to have it.

I'm glad I re-read the descriptions more carefully because I was set to order tOS,tNG and DS9, thinking they were 3 separate guides...

So, the one book covers everything, including info on the tech, characters, and lore of tOS, tOS (Movies) tNG, DS9, Voyager, Enterprise, and more?

I have wanted to play Trek solo for a long time, so this looks great, but when playing as a captain, how do you handle the rest of the crew, especially on away missions?

To date, the closest I have found to what I wanted was a game called Welcome Aboard, Captain, which has you playing the captain, (as the title suggests...) but you have stats and rules for your crew and how they can assist you. What about this? Most solo games are lacking in support for NPCs...

Yes, all four cover variants include the same information about tech, characters, eras, etc.

Crew is abstracted by using the ship's department scores, or you can create sheets for each NPC if you want. The focus of the game is on your character, but there's nothing stopping you from creating sheets for some or all of your NPC crew.

Great, thanks for the response. I don't imagine I would want to create a series of character sheets to keep track of (though maybe...), but just to be clear, there are rules of some sort that support the other characters taking action? For example, if I am ordering my helmsman to take evasive maneuvers, that would be based on *their* abilities as opposed to something on my own character sheet? Or would that require that individual characters be created?

That may sound like an odd question, but I do like to differentiate between the various levels of ability possessed by different characters.

The crew is represented by the ship's statistics, which are the six departments available - Command, Conn, Security, Engineering, Medicine, and Science. Each department is rated 1-5 and you'd use that to roll for any NPC task if you so choose.

If you want to get more granular to a specific NPC, you'd want a character sheet for them, or at least some basic stats, such as deciding they have a 10 in their key attribute and a 4 in their key discipline.

Basically you can either use the crew average from the ship stats, or make character sheets for specific group members that you might rely on regularly. It's as much detail as you want. These rules are an abbreviated rule set that facilitates solo play, with less complication in resolution, taken as a subset from the core Star Trek adventure rules which are set up for a group. The solo rolls allow you to play solo or because of the story facilitating charts, you can play with other players using the charts together without a GM, or you could actually use the rules with a game master just as a simpler, easier to play rule set without the full crunchy details of the Star Trek Adventures but they're all compatible so you can mix and match any books of the system or any supplements.

If you want to have a setup where you have the individual skills of specific characters you're going to need a character sheet at least at the level of a supporting character if not a full character.

Ordered the hardback shortly after announcement, got the PDF right way, too bad I can't rate it here: 5 Stars.

There's something for everyone here, even if you're like me, not as immersed in the fandom as some others. Everything is broken down for you, easy to understand and follow.

Each generation is further broken down given a good once over in case you're not familiar with it. The fun part is you don't have to be a captain, you can play any role you want, even as a janitor if you're feeling the Space Quest vibe.

Solo Star Trek has always been something I wanted to experience, sadly I know Zero people that would be interested. It was worth the cost of admission and I'd recommend it to anyone, not just Star Trek fans.

There is so much here you could easily use it for customized adventures or mix and match with existing systems.

Contact [email protected] with proof of purchase and ask them to put a copy of the one you bought in your DriveThru account. They'll usually get it done within one business day, though with it being GenCon I might give them a little extra time.

Scanned image
These products were created by scanning an original printed edition. Most older books are in scanned image format because original digital layout files never existed or were no longer available from the publisher.

For PDF download editions, each page has been run through Optical Character Recognition (OCR) software to attempt to decipher the printed text. The result of this OCR process is placed invisibly behind the picture of each scanned page, to allow for text searching. However, any text in a given book set on a graphical background or in handwritten fonts would most likely not be picked up by the OCR software, and is therefore not searchable. Also, a few larger books may be resampled to fit into the system, and may not have this searchable text background.

For printed books, we have performed high-resolution scans of an original hardcopy of the book. We essentially digitally re-master the book. Unfortunately, the resulting quality of these books is not as high. It's the problem of making a copy of a copy. The text is fine for reading, but illustration work starts to run dark, pixellating and/or losing shades of grey. Moiré patterns may develop in photos. We mark clearly which print titles come from scanned image books so that you can make an informed purchase decision about the quality of what you will receive.

Original electronic format
These ebooks were created from the original electronic layout files, and therefore are fully text searchable. Also, their file size tends to be smaller than scanned image books. Most newer books are in the original electronic format. Both download and print editions of such books should be high quality.
