101 Garden Worlds

Designed for use in any science fiction RPG, this collection contains maps of 101 different garden worlds. If your players have just arrived at a new star system, and want to know what the main world looks like, this collection provides a variety of different options to choose from. It comes with a PDF, with one world per page. Each world has an icosohedral map, a rectangular map, a 3D render of the world with clouds, and four renders of the world without clouds. Each world also comes with a brief description, as well as details on size and temperature.

If you are running a game on a VTT, or want to produce your own handouts, then there is a digital download containing 14 images for each world:

  • Two icosohedral maps, one with a black border and one without (about 1,600px wide)
  • Rectangular map (4096x2048px)
  • 3D Render of the world with clouds (2048px)
  • 3D Render of each hemisphere, North and South (2048px)
  • Eight side-on 3D renders, giving renders of side-on views of each world, at 45° increments (2048px)

In addition to these static images, there are also extra digital downloads which include animated tokens for each world:

  • Three resolutions of WEBP animations, at 100px, 200px and 400px sizes
  • Three resolutions of WEBM animations, at 100px, 200px and 400px sizes

These can be used in VTTs such as FoundryVTT or Roll20 to provide animated tokens, handouts or portraits.

FoundryVTT supports WEBM files as animated tokens, and WEBP files as animated actor portraits or in journal entries.

Roll20 supports the use of WEBM files as tokens or in handouts.

Animated tokens range in size from about 300K to 8MB, depending on format and resolution, so there is a wide variety of choices to allow you to balance storage, bandwidth and quality. See the linked YouTube video for what the animations look like.

With the purchase of this pack, you are allowed to use these maps and tokens for both personal and commercial use. You may not sell or distribute them singly or collectively as their own product. If you use them commercially, you must credit NotASnark. If you are simply using them as part of a streamed game, you don't need to give credit (though it is always nice).

All the maps are generated using my own WorldGen software, available on GitLab. 3D images and animations generated using Blender.

The file size seems to say over 2 gigabytes. Is that true?? As a .pdf, it may be too large to view.

The PDF is just under 200MB. The are ZIP files included as well which include the bulk of the images and animated tokens. These are over 2GB.

These products were created by scanning an original printed edition. Most older books are in scanned image format because original digital layout files never existed or were no longer available from the publisher.

For PDF download editions, each page has been run through Optical Character Recognition (OCR) software to attempt to decipher the printed text. The result of this OCR process is placed invisibly behind the picture of each scanned page, to allow for text searching. However, any text in a given book set on a graphical background or in handwritten fonts would most likely not be picked up by the OCR software, and is therefore not searchable. Also, a few larger books may be resampled to fit into the system, and may not have this searchable text background.

For printed books, we have performed high-resolution scans of an original hardcopy of the book. We essentially digitally re-master the book. Unfortunately, the resulting quality of these books is not as high. It's the problem of making a copy of a copy. The text is fine for reading, but illustration work starts to run dark, pixellating and/or losing shades of grey. Moiré patterns may develop in photos. We mark clearly which print titles come from scanned image books so that you can make an informed purchase decision about the quality of what you will receive.

Original electronic format
These ebooks were created from the original electronic layout files, and therefore are fully text searchable. Also, their file size tends to be smaller than scanned image books. Most newer books are in the original electronic format. Both download and print editions of such books should be high quality.
