Warriors of Walnut Woods

Welcome, Adventurer! Come and Discover Walnut Wood: A Humble Abode for Squirrels

Walnut Wood is a serene and unassuming habitat where squirrels coexist peacefully. Nevertheless, peace is a delicate balance that is threatened by lurking monsters and evils just beyond the borders of the Wood. This is where the Walnut Guard comes into play. This team of skilled heroes is trained to patrol the Walnut Wood and protect its inhabitants from harm. YOU are a member of the Walnut Guard. Having just graduated from the training program, you are eager to set out and see more of your homeland. Of course, the complimentary Honey Mead at Nut Hollow Tavern is a bonus. Adventure calls, and you are ready to answer. Good luck, little hero.

In this book you will find:

  • The very basic system rules that fit on one page.
  • Rules for creating your own Squirrel hero.
  • 3 Different Quests with their own easy to use game sheets.
  • Tips for running it as a traditional RPG at your local game table.

This Micro Mini game is a highly simple and condensed game you can play solo or run in a traditional manner at your game table. Perfect for kids, families, beginners, and gamers looking for a simpler game.

Special thanks to Neil Burton for assistance on art and Ryan Nelson for helping to edit the text. The art in this book was created using a combination of hand drawings by Noah Patterson, stock art, photoshop, Canva editing tools, Playground AI., and assistance from fellow creators.

Thanks to everyone who has played Warriors of Walnut Woods so far and left comments or reviews. I've made some updates based on the feedback. The main issues people have shared have been: the difficulty of dice rolls, lack of clarity on some rules, and a few issues I missed in the art.

I rewrote the small section on Stat Rolls to better indicate that Stats are added 2D6 with the goal to roll 12+.

I have changed hero creation to add +3 to a Stat for each choice. Life Force is also 2D6+STR instead of 1D6. If difficulty still proves to be an issue, I will alter the enemy stats to scale accordingly.

I have used Photoshop to fix some of the art issues I hadn't noticed.

I removed the last two pages since they were superfluous.

Thanks again!

Rating: 2 / 5

This is, as promised, a very light rules system. That makes it easy to pick up and play, but it misses the opportunity to focus on a story with the rules out of the way. There is the setup and seeming potential of a fun, cute world with squirrels who use nuts for currency, but there is very little story to be told in the completion of an adventure. There isn't any variation in the quests either within each difficulty; every time you roll for an easy quest, it's the same set of locations, encounters, and boss. It feels something closer to a casual dice game than an RPG with a story to tell and opportunity to tell your own.

There is also some heavy editing needed in the rules. For example, a hero has three stats, but it's never explicitly stated what those are for. Presumably you add STR to a STR roll, but this is not in the rules that I can find. There are other spots that...See more

Scanned image
These products were created by scanning an original printed edition. Most older books are in scanned image format because original digital layout files never existed or were no longer available from the publisher.

For PDF download editions, each page has been run through Optical Character Recognition (OCR) software to attempt to decipher the printed text. The result of this OCR process is placed invisibly behind the picture of each scanned page, to allow for text searching. However, any text in a given book set on a graphical background or in handwritten fonts would most likely not be picked up by the OCR software, and is therefore not searchable. Also, a few larger books may be resampled to fit into the system, and may not have this searchable text background.

For printed books, we have performed high-resolution scans of an original hardcopy of the book. We essentially digitally re-master the book. Unfortunately, the resulting quality of these books is not as high. It's the problem of making a copy of a copy. The text is fine for reading, but illustration work starts to run dark, pixellating and/or losing shades of grey. Moiré patterns may develop in photos. We mark clearly which print titles come from scanned image books so that you can make an informed purchase decision about the quality of what you will receive.
Original electronic format
These ebooks were created from the original electronic layout files, and therefore are fully text searchable. Also, their file size tends to be smaller than scanned image books. Most newer books are in the original electronic format. Both download and print editions of such books should be high quality.
