Embark on an Unforgettable Journey!

Within the pages of this tome, you will find everything you need to create heroic characters for the MythCraft role-playing game. Choose from countless combinations of lineage, background, and talent options to design exactly the character that you want to play.

The Core Rulebook is an essential for any game master or player. In addition to extensive player options, this book also contains all of the basic rules that you need to play the game.

MythCraft offers you a uniquely customizable role-playing experience. As you explore grand fantasy worlds, you must rely on your diplomatic words, your keen senses, and your sharpened steel. Your actions have consequences, and your legacy may be heralded or decried for generations to come.

Vast, undiscovered realms await you. What myths will you craft?

MythCraft Mechanics

MythCraft is an original tabletop roleplaying game with unrivaled character creation options, intuitive magic, a true Action Point system, a full "Backgrounds, Occupations, and Professions" system, and familiar but reimagined d20 mechanics. Build characters like never before with tens of thousands of unique builds.

MythCraft features 18 Lineages, 13 Classes, 58 Subclass Tracks, 5 Sources of Magic and 340 spells, 17 Professions, and over 2,000 Talents.

Every Level Matters

Character progression in MythCraft is exciting and intuitive. No weird, arbitrary math or spreadsheets are needed! Beyond gaining power at every level, you also gain a new Lineage Feature every 5 levels from your chosen lineage.

Talent Points

MythCraft features 2000+ talents. Each level, you gain 1 Talent Point that can be spent on any Talent you meet the prerequisites for. These are split into 13 Class Stacks, 58 Subclass Tracks, 5 Magic Source, and Specialization Talent groupings.

Following a Subclass Track gives you access to Capstone talents, which are especially powerful ways to define your character.

Backgrounds, Occupations, and Professions

While you are an adventurer, there is much more to your life than just battling beasts, hoarding treasure, and going on quests. MythCraft features a robust Backgrounds, Occupations, and Professions (BOP) system that provides ways to advance your character beyond just combat abilities.

MythCraft has 17 Professions that rank up, and grant new abilities as your character progresses. Become the governor of your own settlement, a renowned entrepreneur, or the admiral of your own fleet of ships

Action Point System

At the start of each of your turns, you gain a set amount of AP, which can be increased as you level up by investing in the Coordination attribute. You can spend AP to move, attack, cast spells, and perform other actions - or you can save AP to spend reactively on other creatures' turns! Unspent AP can roll over to your next turn, allowing for strategic setups, dynamic combat, and incredible feats of teamwork!

Five Sources of Magic

In MythCraft, casters and mythical monsters can draw from one of five distinct sources of magic: Arcane, Divine, Occult, Primal, and Psionic - each with their own mechanics and spell lists. As powerful mages, cultists, and oracles throughout Ancerra conflict, it gradually becomes evident that each of the sources of magic are stronger than some, and weaker than others, in a grand cosmic balance.

Each spellcaster will have a certain number of Spell Points they can expend to cast spells and gain more spell points as they take levels in a magical class. Spell Points can interact with Action Points in exciting ways, such as conjuring powerful spells that might take multiple turns or making tactical decisions like charging up a spell and going nova!

Death Points

When you reach 0 HP - you're not out of the fight, even though you are dying. Characters have 8 Death Points that they accrue from taking damage whilst at 0 HP. At 8 Death Points, your character dies. This allows for much more epic moments and plays more into strategy than just playing whack-a-mole with healing or stabilization mechanics.

Ready for your next epic saga? MythCraft TTRPG!

Hello,
The Goodwill value table is not the same in the Core 1.2.2 (p 368) and in the Crafter guide 2.1 (p 29). Is this normal?

Interesting game, interesting setting, was intrigued right up until I saw the skill list. It feels like taking a massive step back to the days of 2e with that. A HUGE number of the INT skills I suspect are borderline useless outside of a very focused campaign.

Then there are the questions that the large list does not answer. Is crafting a bow done with woodworking? Is crafting weapons and armor done with Smithing? Both only refer to repairs. Why is Lockpicking an INT skill, especially since the INT list is so massive to begin with. What is the difference between Intimidation and Menacing? Menacing even uses the word "intimidate" in its description! Is Alchemy restricted to potions, or does it overlap with Chemistry? There seems to be overlap between Investigating and Perceiving. Am I investigating if I physically search someone, but Perceiving if I catch a glimpse of a concealed item? This is a pretty big step backward in the setup of a skill system, and I would not want to use it as an...See more

Hey Michael! Darn - Sorry to hear you're not a fan of the skills, but thank you for the feedback. I offer some reasoning below and I'd encourage you to keep reading! MythCraft has a ton of great concepts.

As far as skills: The skill system would lead to a lot of skills being ignored if the approach to skills was the same as other TTRPGs, but the point of MythCraft's skill system is to draw the players into a more active role with narration. Not every hero has every skill; they only have the skills that they put points in.

Sometimes, the GM will ask for a specific skill, like INT/Medicine. The vast majority of the time, though, the GM will describe a situation, say which attribute (or attributes) could be applicable, and then it would be up to the player to say "oh, I have this specific skill that is beneficial here."

For example, two heroes walking across a desert might have to make Endurance (END) checks. If a hero has the Forced March skill, it is up to them to...See more

Yes, I understand the difference in the setup up. I am all for players taking things for flavor, but mechanically, there are still some short comings. Art will be broadly useful, while the various crafting skills (paintining, calligraphy, etc) will see very narrow and limited use. The game has us making adventurers, not artisans, yes? Skill points are not as plentiful here as other systems with lists this large, so making smart use of them is going to pretty important. Some of a skills usefulness is gated behind a Talent, such as Astronomy. It subs for Navigation at half cost and then the Talent allows it to completely sub. Why not just take Navigation to begin with and never be lost by buying that Talent? Am I underestimating how often Astronomy will come up in a game... or rather, how often a character can advocate for it's use? Maybe, I doubt it. This puts a lot of burden on the MC to make skills useful, particularly between something like Menacing/Intimidate. If they are both going to apply most of the time,...See more

It's a little different! In MythCraft, the BOP system (Backgrounds Occupations & Professions) is a separate, second, character progression that you advance alongside your talent point build. You can become the leader of a settlement, for example, but choosing the Pioneer BOP doesnt interfere or take away from you being, say, an Occultist Witch (Which... Cool build idea; lets start a cult/commune!)

Gee, all the glowing "reviews" on 12/20 right before their next crowdfunding campaign for 2e sure is convenient.. Shady marketing, shady product? Would like to hear real feedback from real people

We put out a call asking for folks to leave a review! It's not meant to be shady at all. To my knowledge, requesting reviews is normal, and we do have a tight knight, active community who love the game!

We don't have a 2e, the current campaign is a reprint and all PDF purchases will get the new version =) That said I would love to get you a complimentary copy if you are skeptical, you can hit me up in Discord at https://discord.gg/MythCraft and ask for Grant!

We also have a free demo available on here PWYW, and you can check it out that way as well.

Thanks!

One of the best TTRPGs that I've looked into and bought with a tremendously helpful and joyous community. The people at the company level are wonderful to talk to as well, always helpful and great to talk to - check it out as they are launching the revised version on 01/07/2025.

So How do you build an unarmored warrion with a blade such as a classical Edo Samauri, Or an Aztec Jaguire warrior. I personally styalistically hate armor, being a big fan of eastern mythology, and really get annoyed being roped into wearing it for any reason. My general view during character creation tends to follow the lines of not being in the path of the attack, as opposed to being swaddled in leather or metals, and relying on reflexes and mobility. How again would I create that feel in a chaeracter? Again Please note, I am noyt looking for a buy armor and pretend it is not there answer. I am looking to be pointed to a talent or skill that lets me escew armor period as long as I am not restrained.

Hey Jeff! I would highly recommend you jump into the MythCraft discord to discuss specific builds. We have a lot of unarmored options, and since MythCraft has 6 defenses, and ways to replace your Armor Rating with your Reflexes and Awareness, I am positive there's a build that will feel right for you.

I don't have the link for your Discord, But I will happily take a look. I think my issue here is that for a talent it feels like being placed on hard mode in the first several levels over a style option if you are trying to play on the front line.

Hey Carl,

It is newly listed, and the preview is enabled, but for some reason it only shows up when previewing the "New" drivethrurpg.com layout. If it doesn't clear up by Monday I will get with support and see how to fix this. The DTRPG team is out on holiday at the moment.

Hey Grant and Carl — the MythCrafter’s Guide preview is under 700K and loads quickly for me on Mac OS in both Chrome and Safari. The Core Rulebook preview is over 11M and loads very slowly for me on Chrome but very quickly on Safari. On both browsers the Creature Compendium preview link displays a Ø symbol on a blank white page. This is on the new DTRPG layout. (Fortunately as a backer I already have all three PDFs and have really enjoyed my first outing as a player.)

Hey there Carl and Chris,

I believe I have fixed this issue on all 3 books. I wanted to show some full-color art but the way previews are embedded I don't think that's possible - the preview now shows the class overview with the ink art by QuasiReal's John B.

Now there is NO preview.

I'm not spending money on this game without seeing some content! And I'm not talking about a table of contents, either. Need some substance.

Scanned image
These products were created by scanning an original printed edition. Most older books are in scanned image format because original digital layout files never existed or were no longer available from the publisher.

For PDF download editions, each page has been run through Optical Character Recognition (OCR) software to attempt to decipher the printed text. The result of this OCR process is placed invisibly behind the picture of each scanned page, to allow for text searching. However, any text in a given book set on a graphical background or in handwritten fonts would most likely not be picked up by the OCR software, and is therefore not searchable. Also, a few larger books may be resampled to fit into the system, and may not have this searchable text background.

For printed books, we have performed high-resolution scans of an original hardcopy of the book. We essentially digitally re-master the book. Unfortunately, the resulting quality of these books is not as high. It's the problem of making a copy of a copy. The text is fine for reading, but illustration work starts to run dark, pixellating and/or losing shades of grey. Moiré patterns may develop in photos. We mark clearly which print titles come from scanned image books so that you can make an informed purchase decision about the quality of what you will receive.

Original electronic format
These ebooks were created from the original electronic layout files, and therefore are fully text searchable. Also, their file size tends to be smaller than scanned image books. Most newer books are in the original electronic format. Both download and print editions of such books should be high quality.
