On the drivethrurpg homepage, a September Setting sale is touted, with 25% off "this week only," promised on Solo RPGs and Gamebooks. Alone Against the Static is pictured among two other books. They are part of the sale, this book is not. I am not sure what happened, but it feels like a bait and switch to me.

Version 4 has problems: the covers (front and back) are missing and the ISBN and Chaosium numbers have @ characters. Looks a bit like a mistake or wrong file, but v3 was much better. Chaosium, do you know what happened?

Do I need a Call of Cthulhu 7th edition rule book to be able to play this, or can I just use the book itself? If I do need the rule book, would the Delta green books work for rules? I understand they are pretty close.

To play it you need the Call of Cthulhu Keeper Rulebook or the Call of Cthulhu Starter Set. You could also use the (free) Call of Cthulhu Quickstart rules. It wasn't designed with other rule sets in mind.

It is made as a single player you are the player and keeper sorta like a choose-your-own-adventure with the rules. I think if you wanted to run it for someone as a keeper and 1 player though if you wanted.

Yes, this is designed for a single player. No Keeper is needed.

However, all of our solo Call of Cthulhu scenarios can be played with a friend or partner: you read the story aloud, make choices, roll dice, and explore the story together. You could also run it with one Keeper and player.

The PDF helpfully has internal links, so when an entry gives you a bunch of choices of where to go, you can click one to jump to that entry.
This appears to be the case for all entries, bar those on the same page as the one you're leaving.

These products were created by scanning an original printed edition. Most older books are in scanned image format because original digital layout files never existed or were no longer available from the publisher.

For PDF download editions, each page has been run through Optical Character Recognition (OCR) software to attempt to decipher the printed text. The result of this OCR process is placed invisibly behind the picture of each scanned page, to allow for text searching. However, any text in a given book set on a graphical background or in handwritten fonts would most likely not be picked up by the OCR software, and is therefore not searchable. Also, a few larger books may be resampled to fit into the system, and may not have this searchable text background.

For printed books, we have performed high-resolution scans of an original hardcopy of the book. We essentially digitally re-master the book. Unfortunately, the resulting quality of these books is not as high. It's the problem of making a copy of a copy. The text is fine for reading, but illustration work starts to run dark, pixellating and/or losing shades of grey. Moiré patterns may develop in photos. We mark clearly which print titles come from scanned image books so that you can make an informed purchase decision about the quality of what you will receive.

Original electronic format
These ebooks were created from the original electronic layout files, and therefore are fully text searchable. Also, their file size tends to be smaller than scanned image books. Most newer books are in the original electronic format. Both download and print editions of such books should be high quality.
