OLDSKULL SAGE LORE: Gaxegon's Arcana

Unearthed revelations of the eldritch past,

Shining a light into corners of the eternal dark …

Wonderland Imprints is proud to announce OLDSKULL SAGE LORE: GAXEGON’S ARCANA, a revelatory compendium for your favorite Fantasy Role-Playing Game. This massive tome compiles thousands of pieces of errata, eldritch lore, and masterly advice from the years 1971 to 1985. Herein you will find sagely advice, Gygaxian rulings and clarifications, tournament rulings, hidden lore, and Advanced and Basic codifications that will answer questions and mysteries that have sat uncompiled for decades. This book is the result of author Kent David Kelly’s research and campaign design over the last 45 years.

Examples of the lore herein include: Full Gygaxian corrections for all races and classes, workable rules for master thieves and spell scrolls, three expert classes, details on mithral and adamantite, clarification on cold-wrought iron weapons, combat system rulings, Lake Geneva campaign house rules, arch-devils and demon lords, Deep One hierarchies, demonic cabals, Xri-Xri the arachnidean demon queen, evil eyes, new lore for hundreds of monsters, Old Guard Kobolds, townsperson occupations, Thralls of Cthulhu and non-psionic mind blasts, magic item lore, the Oldskull Planes of Existence, and much more.

The author also shares iconic aspects of the World of Oldskull campaign, including the Chaos Knight class, Gygaxian hunters, Grimrook’s Order of the Plague Doctors, treasures from the Lost Isles of Pegana, and more. This deluxe compendium is devoted to the spirit of the 1977-1979 Advanced game, but much of the lore is system neutral (especially for monsters) and can be applied to Basic/Expert, 5E, and other favored gaming systems as you wish. You will find hundreds of secrets within that you have never known you needed the answers to.

The arcane lore of the Golden Age and the shadowed World of Oldskull rises unearthed at last.

Another fine release from Kent David Kelly and Wonderland Imprints, Only the Finest Works of Fantasy.

(146,700 words, 382 pages, over 130 illustrations.)

I'm enjoying the book so far!

Page 12 (product and preview): Section VI, Elven Clerics (1): "(such as negative reaction rolls from other dwarves)" the parenthetical should refer to elves, not dwarves.

Thanks much Harold, I've corrected that now. I'm sure there's more.

Hi Tony, it will definitely be in paperback and hardcover in January. I'll be doing a few refinements first (and issuing a V1.1 PDF as needed).

Scanned image
These products were created by scanning an original printed edition. Most older books are in scanned image format because original digital layout files never existed or were no longer available from the publisher.

For PDF download editions, each page has been run through Optical Character Recognition (OCR) software to attempt to decipher the printed text. The result of this OCR process is placed invisibly behind the picture of each scanned page, to allow for text searching. However, any text in a given book set on a graphical background or in handwritten fonts would most likely not be picked up by the OCR software, and is therefore not searchable. Also, a few larger books may be resampled to fit into the system, and may not have this searchable text background.

For printed books, we have performed high-resolution scans of an original hardcopy of the book. We essentially digitally re-master the book. Unfortunately, the resulting quality of these books is not as high. It's the problem of making a copy of a copy. The text is fine for reading, but illustration work starts to run dark, pixellating and/or losing shades of grey. Moiré patterns may develop in photos. We mark clearly which print titles come from scanned image books so that you can make an informed purchase decision about the quality of what you will receive.
Original electronic format
These ebooks were created from the original electronic layout files, and therefore are fully text searchable. Also, their file size tends to be smaller than scanned image books. Most newer books are in the original electronic format. Both download and print editions of such books should be high quality.
