“WE COME IN PEACE.”

We have forgotten the unforgettable. The last to unify our tribes: Kahless.” - T’Kuvma

The Federation-Klingon War Tactical Campaign expands upon the core Star Trek Adventures roleplaying game experience by providing a campaign that parallels the Klingon War story arc depicted in the first season of Star Trek: Discovery. This tactical campaign enables you and your group to explore what was happening elsewhere in the Federation during this perilous time. With a plethora of additional rules variations to embrace the emotional toil of being thrust into a war, this campaign gives you the tools to build exciting narratives during the war.

Additionally, this PDF includes rules for an all new, procedurally generated campaign overlay that gives players the opportunity to take on the roles of admirals assigning assets to deal with Klingon threats across the Galaxy.

How will war take its toll on you and your allies?

The Federation-Klingon War Tactical Campaign is a 232-page, full-color PDF, and contains:

  • An extensive discussion of the state of the Galaxy before and during the Federation-Klingon War in 2256 and 2257.
  • An in-depth look at 12 wartime roles along with how typical Starfleet roles change during wartime.
  • A new system that applies scars to characters, representing the toll war has had on them.
  • Fifteen new talents focusing on both the tactical and diplomatic theaters of war.
  • More than 25 named starships, Federation and Klingon, that were a part of the war effort.
  • Six new playable species, including Aenar, Arcadian, Ariolo, Betelgeusian, Coridanite, and Megarite.
  • Over 20 war-focused mission briefs including tactical, routine, exploration, and unknown mission options.
  • A wealth of advice on gamemastering wartime campaigns and ensuring all players feel safe while playing in war campaigns.
  • An optional campaign overlay that puts the players in the role of admirals while making decisions about the war effort.
  • Optional rulesets that enhance the tactical side of roleplaying.

This PDF requires a Star Trek Adventures core rulebook to use.

This appears to be focused on the Federation side (description is semi-ambiguous), is it possible to play the Klingon side in this campaign? Or at least easy enough to retrofit (something like same story, but just switch most species to Klingon and enemies are Federation)?

How much of this book is usable in TNG/DS9 era? Or to put it in another way, if you're not interested in STD era at all, is there anything besides Chapter 1 that's actually usable? Looking at the preview, it seems the other chapters are more or less about the STD era and this particular war. (Sure you might find tidbits here and there that might be usable with a bit of wrangling, but I don't mean that. I mean really usable directly out of the book.)

All the character species, talents, character role options, optional rules, trauma and scar rules, and the entire tactical campaign component are usable in any era. The starships and NPCs in the back of the book are likewise portable to whenever you want to use them.
The six full length adventures and the 20+ mission briefs can be adjusted for use in any era as well. They don't have to be solely for the Fed-Klingon war period. Change the Klingons to an era-approrpriate adversary of your choice and you're off and running.

I just reviewed the preview.

It appears your two page map has some errors. The most glaring is the location of the boundary between quadrants.

Per page 10--are you taking the science out of science fiction? Do you know the meaning of the word species? The definition is characterized by the fact that groups are reproductively isolated from other groups. Organisms in one species are incapable of reproducing with organisms in another species. Who was editing this?

Did you watch ANY Star Trek show, at all?
There are plenty examples of mixed heritage characters in the shows. Mr. Spock, Deana Troi, Gul Dukat's daughter, to name just a few.
It may be biologically wrong, but it's true to the source material none the less.

Even in terms of real science, you're wrong. Mules, ligers, and polar bear/brown bear hybrids are all real world examples of interspecies hybrids. Interspecies hybrids are simply usually infertile. But as Markus pointed out, interspecies relationships with offspring are common in Star Trek.

Feel free to post any perceived errors to the map to the errata form: https://www.modiphius.net/en-us/blogs/news/modiphius-errata-and-faq-update

We'll let the licensor know if an actual error is identified in their map.

As for species, watch some Star Trek. You'll find that many species in the franchise have successfully interbred with other species.

Easily. I’ve combined it with Captain’s Log to get the narrative, single player experience against the backdrop of an ongoing, larger struggle between the Federation and the Klingons. Besides all the new wartime-specific character traits, traumas, etc and ships, you can wage the conflict at an admiral’s level to try and fight the greater war. From personal experience, the two books combine like peanut butter and chocolate, which is to say, pretty dang good. Further, with a bit of creativity the framework and methodology in this book can be hacked to fit any other large-scale conflict, like the Dominion War. If you enjoy STA, this is a must and a pleasure.

Yes. The tactical campaign overlay minigame can be played entirely solo. All of the adventures and mission briefs included in the book can be adapted for use with Captain's Log or your favorite solo RPG.

Just to say it, you won't see a POD. Modiphius' Star Trek line does print versions the old-fashioned way.

Scanned image
These products were created by scanning an original printed edition. Most older books are in scanned image format because original digital layout files never existed or were no longer available from the publisher.

For PDF download editions, each page has been run through Optical Character Recognition (OCR) software to attempt to decipher the printed text. The result of this OCR process is placed invisibly behind the picture of each scanned page, to allow for text searching. However, any text in a given book set on a graphical background or in handwritten fonts would most likely not be picked up by the OCR software, and is therefore not searchable. Also, a few larger books may be resampled to fit into the system, and may not have this searchable text background.

For printed books, we have performed high-resolution scans of an original hardcopy of the book. We essentially digitally re-master the book. Unfortunately, the resulting quality of these books is not as high. It's the problem of making a copy of a copy. The text is fine for reading, but illustration work starts to run dark, pixellating and/or losing shades of grey. Moiré patterns may develop in photos. We mark clearly which print titles come from scanned image books so that you can make an informed purchase decision about the quality of what you will receive.

Original electronic format
These ebooks were created from the original electronic layout files, and therefore are fully text searchable. Also, their file size tends to be smaller than scanned image books. Most newer books are in the original electronic format. Both download and print editions of such books should be high quality.
