Write of the Living Dead: A Roll and Write Horror Survival Game Book

ADD TO WISHLIST >

It all began on a typical summer evening. Three strangers were going about their normal everyday lives when the unbelievable happened. Random acts of violence seemed to be popping up everywhere. People were killing each other . . . even eating each other. These three strangers were forced to flee into the countryside, into a seemingly abandoned farmhouse. Now, trapped together, the three women will need to work together to survive the night . . . or succumb to the flesheating hunger of the living dead who wait just outside.

In WRITE of the Living Dead, you play as these three survivors in a farmhouse, rolling dice, searching for items, making dire choices, warding off zombie attacks, and trying to survive until sunrise without getting killed  . . . or killing each other.

This Roll and Write game book includes:

  • Backstories on the three survivors
  • Helpful guides to learn all the game's symbology
  • Simple and straightforward rules to play
  • A score sheet for your games
  • THE GAME SHEET!!!

To play you will need:

  • A printed copy of the game sheet (and score sheet if you wish)
  • A pencil with an eraser
  • 5-10 six-sided dice

Hi, thanks so much for the game! Zombies have been a huge SI for me since I saw Night of the Living Dead as a kid.

But I have a question about the rules. So on page 5, it says the blood drop equals a Named Zombie's Tension Number, but it says Threat Number under Tension Step on page 7.

Is it actually supposed to be a Tension Number? If so, would that mean we should increase the Tension when Named Zombies spawn? Right now, it says to increase Threat when they spawn and to lose cooperation if the resulting Threat increase marked a blood splatter.

Correct. That is a typo. A Named Zombie increases the tension by the amount printed on their photograph. Tension causes loss of cooperation if you make a splatter. Hope that helps.

Is this like running like the old chapbook games, the newer material you've been releasing, or something new?

This is a traditional roll and write game. Roll dice and mark outcomes on the game sheet.

Scanned image
These products were created by scanning an original printed edition. Most older books are in scanned image format because original digital layout files never existed or were no longer available from the publisher.

For PDF download editions, each page has been run through Optical Character Recognition (OCR) software to attempt to decipher the printed text. The result of this OCR process is placed invisibly behind the picture of each scanned page, to allow for text searching. However, any text in a given book set on a graphical background or in handwritten fonts would most likely not be picked up by the OCR software, and is therefore not searchable. Also, a few larger books may be resampled to fit into the system, and may not have this searchable text background.

For printed books, we have performed high-resolution scans of an original hardcopy of the book. We essentially digitally re-master the book. Unfortunately, the resulting quality of these books is not as high. It's the problem of making a copy of a copy. The text is fine for reading, but illustration work starts to run dark, pixellating and/or losing shades of grey. Moiré patterns may develop in photos. We mark clearly which print titles come from scanned image books so that you can make an informed purchase decision about the quality of what you will receive.

Original electronic format
These ebooks were created from the original electronic layout files, and therefore are fully text searchable. Also, their file size tends to be smaller than scanned image books. Most newer books are in the original electronic format. Both download and print editions of such books should be high quality.
