PAVIS EXPERT

For about 18 months around the year 2000, Ian had detailed correspondence with Greg Stafford (creator of Glorantha and head of Issaries Inc. at that time) about the secrets of Old Pavis and the long-rumored 'Pavis Grand Plan'. In two consecutive years Ian was official Issaries Inc, 'Pavis Expert'; in 2002 he won the Issaries Inc. award for best Gloranthan short story; and was also one of the writers for both Storm Tribe: The Cults of Sartar and Masters of Luck & Death.

An official Pavis Grand Plan adventure arc was formally discussed. Agreements were made on what could be in the fanzines, and what would be held back for professional publication. This book (Vol. 05) contains several articles that were major elements in the Grand Plan and were developed with Greg’s direct assistance.

THE DIRECTOR’S CUT

At the same time as all of that, Ian was collaborating with Fabian of Tentacles Press, to publish his extensive 5-year (real-time) Pavis & Big Rubble campaign. This resulted in eight books:

- An intro section in an issue of Ye Booke of Tentacles (YBoT),

- Five stand-alone volumes, and

- Two Tradetalk special editions.

(Most of which has been out of print for quite some time.)

Until we have put all the pieces together (months more work still to go) we won't know exactly how many volumes it will be, but at this moment it’s looking like a total of nine - including two special editions.

As with the original series, the Director's Cut is designed as an extension on the primary official Pavis & Big Rubble sourcebooks. You will need a version of each of those as the backdrop to this campaign, as well as ideally the RQ:G rulebook and Bestiary.

THIS BOOK, AND THE WHOLE SERIES, IS A COLLABORATION

The work required to get this book completed, and the series itself revised, expanded and back out there, has proved staggeringly beyond the original estimate.

HUGE gratitude to the volunteers assisting with proofing, stats, practical advice, formatting, and other helpful bits and pieces. Plus of course, those who collaborated originally who gave permission to use their articles and art once again.

This book absolutely wouldn’t exist without these wonderful people!

VOL. 06 — FEAR & LOATHING IN OLD PAVIS (ETA: early 2025)

Despite Duke Raus’ trip to the capital of the Lunar Empire (accompanied by the Adventurers in a scenario that was announced for but didn’t fit into Vol. 05), his temporary Governorship is not extended. Instead, hard-liner Halcyon var Enkorth takes over the position left vacant by Count Sor-Eel, and cracks down hard on both the worship of the Storm Pantheon and the rights and privileges of the Old City. If that wasn’t bad enough, Whitewall falls and Orlanth is dead! These are dark times indeed. Desperate measures must be taken. Including expeditions onto Ogre Island, beneath the Devil’s Playground, and into the heart of the Puzzle Canal.

Is this for the current RQ game? Or could I use it with RQ Classic?

Hi there. The original campaigns were run under RQ Classic so it remains in that style. We have done our best to update this series to RQ:G, but the intention is that a GM familiar with either style could pretty much effortlessly adapt it to suit either. In both of the original runs of the campaign we used a variation of Steve Perrin’s ‘Stormbringer’ combat rules as these took much less time, but otherwise we used RQ Classic for everything else as far as I can recall.

I'm more interested to run it in Classic than RQG. Thanks!

All good. Just in case it isn't clear for anyone who sees this discussion, the original series was written and played in a version of the Classic rules. And this new series is written more in that style than in the RQ:G style. It is specifically designed in fact to be available for both styles of gameplay.

Scanned image
These products were created by scanning an original printed edition. Most older books are in scanned image format because original digital layout files never existed or were no longer available from the publisher.

For PDF download editions, each page has been run through Optical Character Recognition (OCR) software to attempt to decipher the printed text. The result of this OCR process is placed invisibly behind the picture of each scanned page, to allow for text searching. However, any text in a given book set on a graphical background or in handwritten fonts would most likely not be picked up by the OCR software, and is therefore not searchable. Also, a few larger books may be resampled to fit into the system, and may not have this searchable text background.

For printed books, we have performed high-resolution scans of an original hardcopy of the book. We essentially digitally re-master the book. Unfortunately, the resulting quality of these books is not as high. It's the problem of making a copy of a copy. The text is fine for reading, but illustration work starts to run dark, pixellating and/or losing shades of grey. Moiré patterns may develop in photos. We mark clearly which print titles come from scanned image books so that you can make an informed purchase decision about the quality of what you will receive.

Original electronic format
These ebooks were created from the original electronic layout files, and therefore are fully text searchable. Also, their file size tends to be smaller than scanned image books. Most newer books are in the original electronic format. Both download and print editions of such books should be high quality.
