Can you explain 'direct damage?' When is the player's damage direct, and when is the enemy's damage direct?

Thank you very much Benjamin! Direct damage is an unpreventable damage. No source can prevent it, and it has exact value. Also it must be stated as "direct damage" by the effect.

Hi, I've been looking but cannot find this information anywhere.
Hope this isn't taken the wrong way, but just wanted to check whether AI was used in the creation of these games, or if it's all original work? A lot of different styles across the games, and I can't find any credit for the artist(s), so just wanted to ask.

Hi Pyke, every game i did have an artist credit. I am doing art on my own or comission artist i work with as an art director for wise wizard game for more than 10 years, i am also doing arts for several board game companies and tcg's like vampire the eternal struggle, sorcerer card game or mage wars. I am an illustrator for more than 30 years and 10 years an art director.

I have some questions after running a couple of adventures:
1) AoE on player weapons: does the attack target all monsters in the same column?
2) Monsters moving in the same grid space: in the video, you say that a monster moving on a gridspace already occupied will NOT move, is that correct?
3) Archetype 10: seems really overtuned, with 2 skills at +1 (instead of just one), Blessed Mace is skill-neutral and strictly better than Carved Bone Staff, Twin Hatchets and Cursed Censer Flail, and Bastion Slam is strictly better than Last Stand and Black Arrow. And then there is the shield and the relic to be added. Any insights about it? Since you can choose your archetype, it seems very appealing and without any counterbalances.

Hello Stefano, please take my apology for a late response. 1 - Yes, all in same column. 2 - Yes, correct. 3 - It with a purpose :-) you also get creators candles as a gift from me... counterbalance between Archetypes is with purpose, its on you to set up the mood and difficulty.

I am curious what are your thoughts/feelings about other people hacking this system or reworking it for a new game? How would you like to be attributed / how open are you to that?

I obviously don't want to step on any toes and want to properly credit the system and creator; I just love how combat and encounters play out so seamlessly with just a deck of cards.

Just a few more questions to clarify:

So in combat when using a weapon, it's not a flat damage increase, just indicating extra cards you draw? So a +3 would be 3 extra cards to draw, not just 3 flat damage?

And then with damage, it's calculated by the exact cards you draw, not just the same rules as the skill check where you either have a strong or weak hit? Like drawing two matching cards isn't just a singular success worth 3 damage, but a double success worth 6 damage?

Hopefully all of that makes sense.

Hello Bill about 70-90 minut approx. But its very easy to "save". Game is measured by the Encounter deck, you can also adjust that element to speed up and vice versa.

Hello - I have questions around using Relics. I might just be blind, but I cant find anywhere in the rules that talks about how to use them, or what it means when one is listed as a 'sigil'. Some have a set number of uses, and some do not. For the ones that don't, does that mean they are unlimited use? For example, the Third Eye relic is listed as 'Sigil' and I can use it to draw +3 Cards in combat, but it doesn't list how many uses it has. Seems pretty powerful if I can uses it every attack...

Also, regarding mundane items... Are they tied to their suits? A 'Handful of glowing pebbles' is in the clubs suit, so can it only be used to boost a Veil skill check? I only ask because starting weapons are tied to specific skills.

Hello Matthew, sigils are once per use, you break that sigil to cast the spell. They are powerful single usage relics. You literally have that physical sigil, then you break it and effect will happen. Mundane items are not tied you basically have full narrative freedom.

Just a quick update: after facing some issues with re-uploading files, I have now uploaded new PDFs. You can recognize the latest version by checking the “Building the Encounter Deck” section on page 8. It should state that you are drawing the top 10 cards instead of 15. You can also watch video tutorial, i added the ling directly to this profile description.

Thanks for creating this wonderful and unique game! Question - I could be thinking about this the wrong way, but the archetype table; is that supposed to have some sort of title for each card draw? I am supposed to pull a fate card there to generate a "class" but I'm not sure what to put on that line because it seems to me like it only gives the modifiers/starting loadout for whatever that class is. Is it expected that - if I pull a 6 of spades for my "class" that on the line next to class I should just write "6 of spades"? Or did I miss something that describes that elsewhere (not uncommon for me to miss something like this). Thanks again!

Hi Man, You do not missed anything, there is no class name or archetype name. Its totally up to you how to name your class, because in downtime between Hunts you will gain further Archetypes. You feel free to create your cool named ones. Btw very important thing: I reuploaded files with MAJOR UPDATE and also i added youtube tutorials to answer all your doubts. These products were created by scanning an original printed edition. Most older books are in scanned image format because original digital layout files never existed or were no longer available from the publisher.

For PDF download editions, each page has been run through Optical Character Recognition (OCR) software to attempt to decipher the printed text. The result of this OCR process is placed invisibly behind the picture of each scanned page, to allow for text searching. However, any text in a given book set on a graphical background or in handwritten fonts would most likely not be picked up by the OCR software, and is therefore not searchable. Also, a few larger books may be resampled to fit into the system, and may not have this searchable text background.

For printed books, we have performed high-resolution scans of an original hardcopy of the book. We essentially digitally re-master the book. Unfortunately, the resulting quality of these books is not as high. It's the problem of making a copy of a copy. The text is fine for reading, but illustration work starts to run dark, pixellating and/or losing shades of grey. Moiré patterns may develop in photos. We mark clearly which print titles come from scanned image books so that you can make an informed purchase decision about the quality of what you will receive.

These ebooks were created from the original electronic layout files, and therefore are fully text searchable. Also, their file size tends to be smaller than scanned image books. Most newer books are in the original electronic format. Both download and print editions of such books should be high quality.
