I've had this PDF sitting on my laptop for a while. Now that COVID has mostly passed and I can have people over again, I figured it was a good time to start a new campaign. I told my players it would be halfling-focused and I was going to use UH,BW to establish a hometown for the heroes (to reduce the chance of murder hobo incidents).
They never got out of the Westmarch.
My players got enthralled in the the goals, gripes, and pastoral life of their wee folk. One player rolled up a complication of a homely suitor making advances, another wanted to fix his damaged inn, the party was easily drawn into a conspiracy involving blind dates, a hatchet throwing contest, and a beehive. By the time the players were in the river using their long tobacco pipes to snorkle air while they waited out the swarming bees, my players were hooked. We spent the whole session preparing for market day and the inevitable spingtime dance afterward.
They may never leave the Westmarch.
This game is a lot of fun with with right palyers and GM. I'm sure its not for everyone, especially at first. My group pot-lucked a lot of food, so it got us into that propper hobbit mood. At the end one player in particular was quite happy there were no world shattering consequences or epic quests, just the very gentle desire to cook the best pies for Market Day. We will be playing again. There will be more mischief and misadventures, but when they do finally get to a business trip (that is definately not an adventure) outside their hedge, they will feel that their hearth and home is a place worth fighting for.
Five Stars - (I hope someday there is one fo these for dwarves too!)
